The radioactive water by gas shale. (DANGER)

-

The New York Times published an article stating the radioactivity of water caused by gas shale, here's the translation (google trans):

The American landscape is dotted with hundreds of thousands new wells and drilling, while the country is struggling to tap into the gold rush of this century - for natural gas.

Gas has always been there, of course, trapped underground in innumerable small bubbles, such as spills jelly seltzer between thin layers of shale. But drilling companies have only in recent years develop techniques for unlocking the enormous reserves, thought to be sufficient to supply the country with gas for heating buildings, generate electricity and operate a vehicle until a hundred years.

Thus, energy companies require drilling. And they are rare to get support from their usual sparring partners. Environmentalists say that using natural gas will help slow climate change because it burns cleaner than coal and oil. Lawmakers hail gas as a source of employment. They see it as a way to wean the U.S. from its dependence on other countries for oil.

But the relatively new drilling method - known as high-volume horizontal hydraulic fracturing, or hydrofracking - has environmental risks. It involves injecting huge amounts of water mixed with sand and chemicals at high pressures to break up rock formations and release the gas.

hydrofracking With a well can produce over one million gallons of wastewater that is often laced with salt and corrosives, carcinogens like benzene and radioactive elements such as radium, which can occur naturally in thousands of feet underground. Other carcinogenic materials can be added to waste water by chemicals used in the same hydrofracking.

Although the existence of toxic waste have been reported, thousands of internal documents obtained by The New York Times Agency of Environmental Protection, state regulators and drillers show that harm to the environment and health are more important than previously thought.

The documents show that wastewater, which is sometimes transported to treatment plants not not aim to treat it, then dumped into rivers that drinking water contains radioactivity at levels higher than those previously known, and much higher than the level that federal regulators say is safe for these plants processing to handle.

Other documents and interviews show that many EPA scientists are worried, warning that the drilling waste is a threat to drinking water in Pennsylvania. Their concern is based in part on a 2009 study, never made public, written by an EPA consultant who concluded that some treatment plants, sewage was unable to remove some contaminants and residues of drilling was probably violated the law.

The Times also found studies ever reported by the EPA and a confidential study by the drilling industry which have all concluded that the radioactivity of drilling wastes can not be diluted into rivers and other watercourses .

But the EPA did not intervene. In fact, federal and state regulators are allowing most of the treatment plants that accept waste from drilling does not test for radioactivity. And most of the plants intake of drinking water downstream of these treatment facilities wastewater in Pennsylvania, with the blessing of regulators, have not tested for radioactivity since before 2006, even though the drilling boom started in 2008.

In other words, there is no way to ensure that drinking water supported by all these plants is safe.

This has worried experts.

"We burn the furniture to heat the house," said John H. Quigley, who retired last month as Secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Pennsylvania.

"In moving away from coal and natural gas lines, we try to clean the air, but we produce massive amounts of toxic wastewater with salts and naturally occurring radioactive materials, and it is not clear that we have a plan to properly manage these waste. "

The risks are particularly acute in Pennsylvania, which saw a sharp increase in drilling, with about 71,000 gas wells, as against about 36,000 in 2000. The level of radioactivity in the waste water was sometimes hundreds or even thousands times the maximum allowed by the federal standard for drinking water. As people are clearly not drink wastewater drilling, because to use the drinking water standard for comparison is that there is no comprehensive federal standard for what constitutes safe levels of radioactivity in waste water drilling.

Drillers truck at least half of these wastes to a treatment plant wastewater in Pennsylvania in 2008 and 2009, according to state officials. Some of them were sent to other states, including New York and West Virginia.

However, operators of sewage treatment plants say they are much less able to remove radioactive contaminants than most other toxic substances. Indeed, the Most of these facilities can not remove enough radioactive material to meet federal standards for drinking water before discharging wastewater into rivers, sometimes just miles upstream of intake of drinking water plants.

Bye Bye bue sky on Swiss TV on 28/02/11.

-

The documentary "Bye Bye blue sky" is spent Monday night on the channel RSI, Swiss TV. This is good news on TF1 to when? ......

"A hot topic and current, so far confined to a narrow circle of specialists, but its scope is transnational interest. Chemtrails or chemical trails (left in the sky by a plane) are a phenomenon known for a decade, a phenomenon that involves the United States, Canada, several European countries and now the African continent. He began military experiments, whose purpose was to control the climate, weather, were found to have a strong negative impact on the environment and public health, due to jet fuel, enriched with heavy metals, then emitted during the flight. Today, scientists, activists, biologists, aerospace engineers, politicians denounced the results of the analysis. The images speak for themselves in which increasingly is seen in the sky of chemtrails that streak for days - as opposed to normal contrails that disappear after a few hours -. These tracks take strange forms, and gave rise to new formations of cumulus so that issues the United States issued a series of stamps devoted to these "new" clouds that threaten human health. "

Lump On Calf Of My Leg

So that's it, the Oscars ... Three unpublished

I've always wondered what it was like the Oscars. What was the great American film community each year for the last weekend of February (it was not always in that period) while I, ensconced under my duvet winter, traditionally j'enlaçais and Morpheus her soft arm. Nope, despite my addiction to the movies, I never considered the Oscars live on ... to a fault in the broadcast nightly from Sunday to Monday night on a pay channel that I have ever owned.

Every year I looked at our Oscars us, Caesars, and every year I heard and read here and there that the French were the Oscars ceremony of the poor, without the ceremonial show in the U.S. the rewards in a cramped atmosphere. I was sure since always, the Oscars, it had to be something other than the Caesars. More punchy, more fun, more crazy.
Friday evening I was obviously attracted by the same curiosity annually by the Caesars. Charmed without being conquered by the number of Antoine de Caunes master of ceremonies. Amused by sketches browsing evening. Excited by the victory of Anne Alvaro and César for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Disappointed by the defeat of Raphael Personnaz, but comforted by a nice speech by Edgar Ramirez. Surprised by the Best Actress Sara Forestier. Punter on the dress overwhelmed Leila Bekhti (eh no, no breast did revealed!). Happy for the recognition of Polanski.

But this weekend, I had the head at the Oscars. Because this year, I was seeing for the first time the Hollywood ceremony, in direct live on Canal +, the long red carpet star around midnight for an Oscar for Best Film at first light (although at this time of year, at 6 o'clock in the morning, it's still dark!) .
So what, the Oscars? At least the Oscars 2011, since I have no point of comparison and I will not speculate as to generalize from a single event ... It's already half past two red carpet. Two hours and thirty minutes watching the stars do their arrival, found their way to the entrance of the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, shaking hands, smacking kisses, posing for the equipment, and answering questions from journalists around the famous carpets.

I pass on the winds took down the red carpet by Didier Allouch, one of the few journalists to drive knowing his job on TV, even if Oscar does not see it, and Lawrence Weil (cons ... by him) and his two guests Gilles Lellouche and Jean-Paul Rouve. What interested me is what would happen inside the Kodak moment with James Franco and Anne Hathaway would enter the stage to present the ceremony.

Part of the excitement there was to discover the 2011 Oscars was precisely in this unique duo of presenters. Franco and Hathaway followed a tradition of professional laugh (Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, Jon Stewart, Billy Crystal, Chris Rock ...) or born showmen (Hugh Jackman), which was therefore a surprising choice.
Franco, who has proved in recent years a jack-of-all fascinating, intense actor in Gus Van Sant, David Gordon Green at Comic, apprentice filmmaker in college, aspiring writer, artist presentation, and even soap actor, could be the star of the evening.

But if there's one thing to remember the progress of those Oscars 2011, is how the actor has proved a poor host . Rigid, detached, without an ounce of glibness or spark, Franco went through the night like a ghost, unable to inject any pace, any humor, any stage presence. Beside her, Anna Hathaway struggled as she was certainly aware that his partner one night completely misses its role, but she could not save the furniture alone. Wow. After that, nobody can criticize the presentation of the Caesars by comparing the thing with the show at the American Academy Awards, on pain of being retorted "Anyway, it was not worse than the Oscars presented in 2011 by James Franco . Nullissime Jimmy. To see him play with his iPhone on stage was to wonder if he has not done on purpose. The Americans will think twice before criticizing the wickedly funny wit of Ricky Gervais, much more exciting at the Golden Globes ...

So, we must admit, this presentation was well soft leaded evening. It took rely on a scenic appearance of Billy Crystal, to a classic skit insertion of presenters in the nominated films (even in France we do know, that), or a beautiful video montage announcing ten films compete for the Oscar for Best Film, to take pleasure in watching the ceremony. It's pretty thin. Finally, the unforgettable moment of the evening, one that can generate real momentum in this class the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony, is the intervention stage of Kirk Douglas, from the top of its 94 spring was more funny, lively and unexpected that Franco and Hathaway met. He might have difficulty articulating and physical scaring children behind which it is difficult to discern the man he was, Kirk Douglas was the greatest good at the Kodak Theater.

Around him, prices have followed, all expected, no surprises except perhaps the Oscar for Best Director, inexplicably returned to Tom Hooper too smooth for a King speech when had been more deserving to give it to David Fincher's amazing The Social Network or Darren Aronofsky for electrifying Black Swan. Oh, and received two Oscars for Alice in Wonderland , they were technical, was useless.
was it, the Oscars 2011, the glamorous marred by trouble ... I will probably not return as James Franco, not he, for sure.

The Pepsi and Coca-Cola carcinogens.

-
While the two competing brands of soft drinks generally the beverage market, they are both now put in the dock, the dyes they use have been reported as carcinogenic.

The Daily Mail as Pepsi and Coca-Cola would use a certain type of caramel color his drinks, caramel contain two substances known to be potentially carcinogenic (2-MI and 4-MI). Far from throwing accusations at random, CSPI asked today that the two drinks are simply prohibited. And the spokesman for the lobby to explain:

"Unlike caramel prepared at home by melting sugar in a pan, the version originally artificial color" coca "is the result of chemical reaction obtained by combining sugar, ammonia and sulphite at high temperature. Result of this process the two chemicals implicated that "after tests performed in the laboratory, (they) would be harmful to health and even cause cancer of the lung, liver, thyroid.

For its part, reports 7sur7, the Institute for Catastrophic Toxicological U.S. would have confirmed the thesis of the lobby explaining that indeed, the two substances are carcinogenic in animals and potentially humans.

Furthermore, the use of aspartame for beverages such as "light" is also criticized, accused of increasing the risk of stroke. Coca-Cola and Pepsi have not responded to the charges.
